ROYAL FLYING DOCTORS – AN UNIQUE AUSTRALIAN SERVICE TO BE PROUD OF!

The Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia (RFDS, informally known as The Flying Doctor) is one of the largest and most comprehensive aeromedical organisations in the world. It provides emergency and primary health care services for those living in rural, remote and regional areas of Australia. It is a not-for-profit organisation which provides health care to people who cannot access a hospital or general practice due to the vast distances of the Outback.

Their fleet of 68 aircraft flew 26,157,502 kilometres in 2016 alone. That’s the equivalent of 34 trips to the moon and back, or more than 600 flights around the Earth.

Delivered by a dedicated team of professionals, using the latest in aviation, medical and communications technology, and supported by a vast number of volunteers and supporters, the RFDS is vital for those that live, work and travel in rural and remote Australia.

283,188 – Total patient contacts were made through RFDS clinics, aeromedical transports and telehealth consultations telehealth consultations
